Department Overview

The Historical Theology Department of BTS is designed to help the students achieve two commensurate purposes.

First, the Historical Theology Department aims to study the history of the Church and its development as the bride of Christ throughout history after Christ’s Ascension and the closure of the canon of Scripture to the present day.

Second, the Historical Theology Department aims to help students study the actual development of history, particular to but not limited to theological concepts, individual institutions, and the impact of different persons over the ages.

Historical theology does not, in and of itself, seek to be directive, but rather, it attempts to be analytical and descriptive, providing a rich seed bed for more directive theological studies--like biblical and systematic theological programs.
